Strange drivers

Ho Chi Minh City is best explored by foot. We only realized that on our second day after we've had our share of strange, and demanding cab drivers. Oh, our first three cab drivers were nice and honest. But the last two cab drivers we had were very strange.

One demanded us to pay him 95,000 dong (about $5). He thought we didn't know anything about cab fares. We only paid about 15,000 dong (less than $1) on our first trip to that place. He showed us his meter and it was indeed 95,000 dong. But I am absolutely sure it was rigged or something. So I only paid him 20K dong and left.

The other was one was totally strange. We were all scared inside the cab. The driver kept on talking in his local language even though he knew we were foreigners. He also drove like he was mad and his door was open all the while! I paid him 40K dong and hurriedly left!

But we still did have a great time in the city. The following day, we explored the city by foot and was surprised that everything was walking distance - all the places of interest and the malls were in just one place, District 1!

I was happy that I brought my dependable shoes and of course some disposable shoe covers. It made walking easier and faster =)

So here's my tip. If you're planning to go to HCMC, there's absolutely no need to take a taxi around District 1. Everything can be reached by foot, unless you're already very tired.

Check my other blog about our itinerary in HCM.
